The Duolingo principle

Three small steps to the aha moment

No guessing, no walls of text. Every new building block is explained first – on its own short page – and only then practised.

1

Discover

Short explanation pages with an example: one concept per page, e.g. first <p>, then <h1>, then <strong>.

2

Try it out

Fill in gaps, put code in order, predict output and write your own code – with hints and instant feedback.

3

Consolidate

Daily puzzles, reviewing your mistakes and Bug Hunter keep what you’ve learned fresh. Your streak shows how far you’ve come.

Your companions

A little courage. One line further.

Five little companions for your big idea. Tap one – it gives you a tip for your next exercise.

Koda, a little code fox

Koda

Explains every building block step by step.

Nova, a violet robot with cat ears

Nova

Helps you stay curious and find bugs.

Lumi, a turquoise light spirit

Lumi

Reminds you: small steps count too.

Bugsy, a green debug beetle

Bugsy

Hunts bugs with you – error messages are its favourite puzzles.

Pixi, a pink pixel cube

Pixi

Loves colours, layouts and websites that are a joy to look at.

Koda: Read the example first. Then change exactly one thing and watch the result.

20 learning paths

From your first web page to your own app

Switch between courses at any time – every course remembers your own progress.

Try it live

Write your first line – right here

Change the code on the left. The preview on the right updates instantly. Even more awaits in the app: a real SQL database, Python and JavaScript.

More than flashcards

A real SQL database in the browser

Your queries really run – with result tables and friendly error messages that tell you what was meant: “The column nmae doesn’t exist. Did you mean name?”
