The idea
Many programming courses are long, dry and assume knowledge you don’t have yet. Leander wanted it the other way round: a few minutes every day, one new building block per step and an app that explains before it asks – just like Duolingo does for languages.
That’s how Compile Academy came about: a learning path for 20 programming languages, with Koda the robot fox as your learning companion, XP, streaks and real exercises where your code is really checked.
What’s inside Compile Academy
- ByteSQL – a small custom SQL database that runs right in the browser and explains errors in plain language.
- PyLite – a Python learning interpreter for safe exercises without a server.
- Isolated JavaScript runtime – learners’ code runs sealed off in QuickJS.
- Liquid Glass – a glass design with real refraction, specular shine and depth.
- Accounts & sync – optionally with Google or email, via Supabase in the EU.
- One codebase for web, Android and iOS with React Native and Expo.
Milestones
- Oct 2026First version under the name “CodeQuest”: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, TypeScript, React and Python.
- Oct 2026Swift and C++ are added, explanations are split into short pages, Google and email accounts with sync.
- Oct 2026New name Compile Academy, Liquid Glass design, app layout on all devices, SQL and Kotlin courses, own website.
What comes next
Java, Go, Rust, C and C# now join the existing learning paths. More build-it-yourself projects come next. Compile Academy keeps growing – step by step, just like its learners.
